The Company Law Policy Unit of the Department serves as secretariat to the Company Law Review Group.
The main tasks of this Unit are:
- to translate the recommendations in the Review Group’s reports into legislative proposals and to progress these to enactment;
- and to expedite the work programme of the Group and to produce, every second year, the substantive report which results from the work programme.
Company Law Review Group
The Company Law Review Group is a statutory advisory expert body charged with advising the Minister on the review and development of company law in Ireland. The Review Group was accorded statutory advisory status by Part 7 of the Company Law Enforcement Act 2001 and operates on a two-yearly cycle.
Rules and practices
The Unit does not make administrative decisions affecting the rights of specific individuals. However, it does engage in contact with members of the general public via its ongoing programme of consultation on company law reform. It also responds to enquiries by members of the general public and interested parties regarding the status of company law reforms. Details of the proposed reforms in company law are posted on the website of the Review Group, http://www.clrg.org. Specifically, any interested person or organisation is invited to comment on existing proposals or suggest other areas of company law where reform would be desirable.
