Role of the Co-operative Legislation Unit

The main role of the Co-operative Legislation Unit is to advise and assist the Minister in relation to the carrying out of his statutory, policy and managerial responsibilities under the Industrial and Provident Societies Acts, the Friendly Societies Acts and the Trade Union Acts and this includes responsibility for monitoring and supporting the Registrar of Friendly Societies. This work relates both to the current legislative and regulatory framework and to proposals for changes to the current regime.
