The Unit's customers are effectively the staff of the Department and its Offices. While the Unit is not directly involved in the provision of services to members of the public, it indirectly enables and facilitates the business units of the Department to provide an improved service to members of the public. Customers of the BASIS project include the businesses community and their agents and public sector service delivery agencies.
The Unit has various internal guidelines and policies concerning ICT usage and security. The Unit’s ICT Strategy is publicly available in the Publications section of this page.
Procurement of Goods and Services
Procurement of information systems, consultancy services, IT infrastructure and hardware requirements as well as telecommunications services and contract services for the Department constitutes a significant part of the Unit's remit. Tendering for all such goods and services on behalf of the Department is conducted in strict accordance with public procurement rules. Staff of the Unit regularly engage in the evaluation of tender bids for goods/services and in managing projects contracted in from external sources. Significant procurement (in excess of ¤10,000) are notified on the official public procurement website, www.etenders.gov.ie
The award of contracts (including IT contracts) by the Department is in accordance with procedures outlined in Department of Finance publications and circulars, where relevant.
