Our Work
In relation to the ILO, this Section:-
- Organises the Irish delegation to attend the annual International Labour Conference, which is held in Geneva every June and the occasional special maritime or other sessions of the International Labour Conference;
- Liaises with other Departments and other Sections within this Departmentand with the social partners (ICTU and IBEC) to complete ILO questionnaires on how Ireland complies with the terms of ILO Conventions and other ILO issues.
- Liaises with other Departments, with other Sections within this Department and with the social partners ( the Irish Business and Employers' Confederationand the Irish Congress of Trade Unions ) on whether or not Ireland should ratify the Convention(s) or accept the Recommendation(s) adopted by the International Labour Conference.
In relation to the Council of Europe (COE), this -Section:-
- Liaises with other Departments and other Sections within this Department to complete our annual report to the Council of Europe on Ireland's compliance with certain nominated provisions (by the COE) of the European Social Charter-copies of which are sent to the social partners inviting their comments - edits, completes and sends that report to the Council of Europe at Strasbourg ;
- Represents Ireland on the Governmental Committee of the European Social Charter of the Council of Europe to defend Ireland against criticism in relation to our compliance with the Charter and to assist in assessing the compliance of other countries with the provisions of the Charter.
