Role of the Enterprise Development Unit

The Unit acts as the Department’s liaison with Enterprise Ireland (EI), the government agency responsible for the development and promotion of the indigenous business sector and also the Crafts Council of Ireland, which promotes and advances contemporary and traditional crafts in Ireland. The Unit provides support and briefing to the Minister in relation to EI’s annual estimates, staffing matters, implementation of policy, etc. The Unit is responsible for the identification and pursuit of particular issues affecting indigenous companies. The Unit administers an early warning system covering all agency-funded companies where jobs are at risk and also provides support to the political and parliamentary system.
