Role of the NSAI Liaison and Standards Section

To liaise with the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI) on various issues in relation to its functioning e.g. arrange approval of the NSAI budget within the Department's vote, provide administrative support to Ministers on standards related issues and obtain Ministerial consent for standards formulated by NSAI. Regular liaison meetings are held to discuss operational issues regarding NSAI.

The NSAI is an independent body established under the NSAI Act, 1996. It is the Irish member of the European and International standards bodies CEN and ISO. The main responsibilities of the Authority include Standards Development, Certification Services, the Legal Metrology Service and Agrément Certification Services.
