TÁNAISTE LAUNCHES NORTH CLONDALKIN JOBS CLUB

Mary Harney, Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment today (Tuesday, 7th July 1998) officially launched the North Clondalkin Jobs Club at Rowlagh Community Centre, Clondalkin, Dublin 22.

Speaking at the launch the Tánaiste said "I am only too familiar with the legacy that unemployment has brought to the area and I believe that this type of initiative is vital to reduce unemployment. It is a further step in the enhancement of the Employment Services provided through the Local Employment Service and FÁS."

"The North Clondalkin Jobs Club aims to enhance the job seeking skills of local unemployed people so that they are better equipped to source job vacancies and cope with the interview process, therefore putting them in a better position to take the necessary steps to secure employment," the Tánaiste said.

The Club was initiated in 1997 by the Clondalkin Centre for the Unemployed and is part of the Clondalkin Local Employment Service. It provides a range of information and advice from sourcing work, letter writing including job applications and c.v. preparation, to interview techniques, grooming, confidence building and presentation skills.

The Club is establishing a drop-in facility that will open five days a week. It will contain all facilities needed in applying for jobs for example, phone, fax, stationary, information, support, typing and photocopying.

The Club will continue to develop a close working relationship with the Local Employment Service.

The Tánaiste thanked Mr Paul O'Raw, the Jobs Club Co-ordinator and all those associated with the Club for their valuable work and wished them success in the future.
