Tánaiste Welcomes the Appointment of Dorgan as the new CEO of IDA Ireland
Mary Harney, Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment today (Thursday, 17th September, 1998) welcomed the appointment of Mr. Sean Dorgan, as successor to Mr. Kieran McGowan, the outgoing CEO of IDA Ireland.
Commenting on Mr. Dorgan's appointment the Tánaiste said "I look forward to working closely with Mr. Dorgan who has a wealth of experience in the industrial development and policy areas. Mr. Dorgan takes over the IDA at a crucial time and in the face of the most rapid industrial and technological change in global markets. The challenge this poses must be seized as an opportunity for Ireland to consolidate and become more dynamic in expanding Ireland's base of internationl companies".
As Secretary of the Department of Industry and Commerce, Mr. Dorgan was very influential in shaping modern industrial policy post-Culliton. "I am confident that under his leadership, we will continue to be successful in an ever increasing competitive market for mobile investment. One of the greatest challenges facing IDA Ireland will be to secure greater regional distribution of new overseas investment in an environment where there will be new pressures on the availability of state aids" the Tánaiste said.
