Siebel Systems to Create 150 Software Jobs in Galway
Mary Harney, Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, today (Monday 8th November 1999) announced that Siebel Systems Inc of California USA, is to establish its European Services Centre in Galway. The centre, supported by IDA Ireland and located on the IDA Ireland’s Dangan Business Park will create 150 new jobs over the next four years, insoftware engineering, technical support, finance, sales and localisation.
Speaking of the Siebel investment, the Tánaiste said, “This is further good news for Galway and brings the total number of jobs in IDA supported projects announced for Galway City and County since the start of year to over 1,400. Over 85% of the new jobs announced today will be filled by graduates and recruitment has already commenced.”
“Siebel’s decision to locate in Galway was due to its desire to be close to Galway University and the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology, both of which will be critical to its development and growth and with which it intends to build close working relationships. The company was attracted to Galway as a location because of skillspool availability, and an attractive lifestyle and commute environment, ” the Tánaiste added.
Siebel Systems is the world's leading provider of Web-based front office systems for sales, marketing, and customer service. The company is growing at a rate of almost 100 per cent every year and has been named by Fortune Magazine in September 1999 as the Number One Fastest Growing Company in America.
The Galway centre’s responsibilities will consist of a technical services group, which will include software engineering, localisation and development services. It will also provide technical support services for Siebel's European customer base. In addition it will also provide financial management and administrative functions for Siebel's European business. All marketing collateral and customer orders will be managed and sourced from Galway. This will include the management of manufacturing and distribution requirements such as print, media duplication and shipment to customers.
The Galway centre’s products are in the rapidly growing front office software market. The fundamental Siebel concept is that customers are a business’s single greatest asset. A business will prosper if it excels at satisfying its customers’ requirements. Until relatively recently enterprise software applications have focused almost exclusively on the “back office” – order management, accounting, inventory, production control and so on. These applications have been geared towards reducing costs and many companies have spent considerable effort and resources on them.
