Mary Harney Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment today (Monday 10th May, 1999) officially launched Tallaght Community Radio at The Square Shopping Centre, Tallaght, Dublin 24.
Speaking at the launch the Tánaiste said "When local radio stations were established, one of the key ideas behind their founding was that they would give more of a voice and identity to local communities. Tallaght Community Radio's show Tallaght Talking allows local people to discuss local issues and through this type of forum the station is providing a valuable community service."
Tallaght Community Radio (TCR 107.2 FM) was awarded a Community Broadcasting Licence last year and has been broadcasting since the 8th February, 1999. There are 13 people employed at the station: 2 full-time people and 11 people who participating on a Community Employment Scheme. The station operates 6 days a week Monday to Saturday from 4pm to 7pm. and delivers a mixture of music, sports, local and current affairs programmes.
The Tánaiste wished John Conroy, Chairperson of Tallaght Community Radio and all those involved in the station every success in the future.
