Tánaiste officially opens Multimedia Computer Room in Greenhills College

Tánaiste Mary Harney today (Wednesday 22nd September, 1999) officially opened the Multimedia/Language Laboratory/Computer facility in Greenhills College, Dublin 12.

Speaking at the opening the Tánaiste said “Greenhills College was one of the first schools in Dublin to establish computers as part of the curriculum in the late 1970’s. To-days official opening of the Multimedia/Language Laboratory/Computer facility continues this tradition and is of great significance in the school. The new facility is central to the Post Leaving Certificate course in International Teleservices which is now in its second year at the college. I know that four of your students taking this course have recently returned from France where they have been in work placement since last May.”

Greenhills College, founded by County Dublin Vocational Education Committee, has been educating Post Primary students in South West Dublin since 1970. The college has been involved in the Post Leaving Certificate and Further Education sectors for over a decade, as well as day time Adult and Community Education including Return To Work courses. There are 600 second level pupils in the college. Since 1998, the College has been providing training for the computer-based applied information technology sector, which is creating over 10,000 jobs in the teleservices industry. The school now has three fully equipped computer rooms.

The Tánaiste paid tribute to the school’s commitment to the community over the last 20 years and wished all staff and students continued success in the future.
