Tánaiste Officially Opens New MSC Offices in Dublin

Tánaiste Mary Harney today (Friday 29th October, 1999) officially opened the new offices of Managed Solutions Corporation Ltd. (MSC), a leading Irish software company.

Speaking at the opening the Tánaiste said ”MSC is a great Irish success story. Since it was founded six years ago, the indigenous Irish software industry has made extraordinary strides. MSC, through its success in technical innovation and market penetration has become one of the biggest privately owned Irish software companies employing over 100 people. “

MSC, which had turnover last year of $7 million, is a leading supplier of next generation of packaged software for the financial and insurance sector. It has developed software which integrates Internet-based financial service functions with automated internal systems.

“Managed Solutions is one of a group of second-generation companies within the software sector which has been building its position over the past few years. As the sector continues to grow, there’s every likelihood that there will be a continuous flow of new Irish companies like MSC which can achieve the scale and reputation in world markets” the Tánaiste said.

The Irish software sector now comprises almost 800 companies, of which about 80% are Irish owned. According to the National Software Directorate’s survey of the industry, total employment in the sector at the end of 1998 stood at almost 22,000, split evenly between Irish and foreign-owned companies. “Clearly this is a firm indicator that Ireland has the entrepreneurs with the skill and ambition to achieve success in this highly competitive sector” the Tánaiste said.

“This has been a particularly good week for MSC as I see that they have announced their plans for a public flotation within the next eighteen months. I would like to wish all involed in MSC continued success in the future” the Tánaiste concluded.
