Companies (Amendment) (No. 2) Act, 1999 Tánaiste Makes Order Bringing Remaining Provisions of Companies Act into Operation

The Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment today (Thursday, 9th March, 2000) announced that she has made an Order setting commencement dates for the remaining provisions of the Companies (Amendment) (No. 2) Act, 1999.

These provisions relate to sections 42 to 51 of the Act which are designed to address the issue of Irish Registered non Resident Companies (IRNR's).

he bringing into operation of these provisions means that the overall package of measures approved by the Government last year to address the IRNR issue will have been implemented in full by 18 April 2000.

Commenting on the new provisions the Tánaiste said "I am confident that the combined force of the Company Law and Taxation Measures will succeed in eradicating the abuses of IRNR's which were creating negative perceptions of Ireland as a good place to do business. I do not expect that the changes will increase costs or administrative burdens unduly for legitimate business. However the operation of these measures in practice will be kept under review".

The Orders are available from Government Publications Sales Office, Molesworth Street, Dublin 2. Phone No.6710309

The Orders will shortly be available on the Department's website at www.djei.ie. Forms prescribed in the Forms Order will be available from the CRO website at www.cro.ie.
