Bombardier Seeks Suppliers in Ireland North-South Trade to benefit from new strategy – Tánaiste
Mary Harney Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment today (Tuesday 26th September 2000) opened a special supplier seminar for 50 Irish companies involved in aircraft components, plant engineering, tooling and software. Organised jointly by Bombardier Aerospace Northern Ireland and Enterprise Ireland the seminar is part of Bombardier’s strategy to substantially increase the level of business it transacts in Ireland.
Speaking at the seminar the Tánaiste said “Bombardier’s operation currently procures £200 million in goods and services each year and this is expected to increase substantially over the next five years as a result of the success of its regional and business aircraft in the marketplace. This represents a tremendous opportunity for Irish companies to participate in Bombardier’s projected growth. Enterprise Ireland is keen to forge solid relationships between Bombardier and Irish suppliers to the benefit of North-South trade.
”The Tanaiste said “To-day’s event with Bombardier/Shorts is part of an on-going programme to further develop North-South trade. Enterprise Ireland works closely with both IDB and LEDU in a range of areas and I believe that this type of initiative can lead to a further increase in North-South trade.
