Litec Moulding Ltd to Invest £4 million in Greenfield Facility 50 New Jobs for Sligo High Skills in Local Community Major Attraction

Mary Harney, Tanaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, today announced (Monday 27th March 2000) that Litec Moulding Ltd is to establish an IDA Ireland backed greenfield facility in Sligo involving a £4 million investment and creating 50 new jobs.

The new manufacturing facility will produce plastic injection moulded components for use in aerosol valves in cosmetic, food and technical products. Litec will be a supplier to one of the major suppliers of aerosol valves for the UK and European markets.

The Tanaiste, welcoming the announcement, said "This is a welcome jobs boost for Sligo town and the local economy, and it reinforces the commitment made by the Government and IDA to bring more jobs to the regions. Litec will employ a wide range of skills ranging from machine operators and toolmakers to CAD/CAM technicians and design engineers".

Litec Moulding will also establish a design centre as part of the Sligo operation. This will enable it to develop new moulds and techniques. The design centre will include laboratory facilities which will be equipped to carry out various tests on the company's products in Ireland. The new facility at Sligo will become a centre of excellence for research, design and development of new technology.

"This investment is ideally suited to the Sligo region due to the very strong infrastructure already in place and the skills' pool availability. This project was won for Sligo against stiff competition from other countries", the Tanasite said. "The Sligo Institute of Technology, and its responsive approach to providing appropriate courses, was particularly important in helping the company to arrive at its final decision in favour of the town", she added.

The new operation will initially locate in a 10,000 sq. ft. premises currently available, while the company awaits construction of a new custom built 25,000 sq. ft. facility on a 1.5 acre site on the IDA owned Finisklin Estate.
