Tánaiste Welcomes Report of Wexford Enterprise Initiative
Mary Harney, Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment today (Friday 31st March 2000) received the report of the Wexford Enterprise Initiative at Johnstown Castle, Wexford where she met with Members of the Initiative.
Speaking at Johnstown Castle, the Tánaiste expressed her appreciation to the Chairman, Mr. Seamus Dooley, Wexford County Manager, and to all the members of the Initiative for their dedicated hard work in producing the Report so quickly.
The Tánaiste established the Wexford Enterprise Initiative last September with the aim of assisting local interests to identify means of promoting a greater level of industrial investment, including the attraction of mobile international investment, into the Wexford region.The Tánaiste said "this Report sets out a very comprehensive blueprint for the development of the County and makes recommendations across a wide number of investment priorities. To turn it into reality will require a spirit of collaboration, commitment and self-help from all the those involved".
The Tánaiste continued "The Government is committed to putting in place the investment needed to release the full economic potential of all the regions. Our aim is to ensure the most equitable distribution of job opportunities and in this regard I have ensured that the need for more balanced regional development has been brought to the core of the IDA's agenda and it has now become the main focus of its activity".
The Tánaiste said that the recommendations of the Report would be examined in detail by the Agencies of her Departments and all other relevant Departments.
