Kitt Announces New Lo-Call Number for Employment Rights Information Unit

Minister Kitt said "Ireland's Employment Rights Legislation establishes the minimum statutory rights applicable to all 1.8 million people working in Ireland whether part-time or full time, high or low skill or whether they are Irish citizens or otherwise. I believe that this new Employment Rights Information Unit lo-call number is an important facility and compliments other services of my Department in assisting employers and employees gain access to information. The Unit is open Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 5pm including lunchtime. Recently additional staff resources have been allocated to this area with the objective of ensuring delivery of a quality service." ”

Minister Kitt continued "To date this year, my Department's Information Unit has dealt with some 73,000 telephone enquiries compared to 65,000 in the same period last year. They have also issued over 200,000 information booklets on employment rights. Some might argue that this level of enquiries suggests a lack of knowledge of their rights on the part of the public. However, I would strongly contend that it reflects a greater awareness by employers and employees of their obligations and entitlements and their desire to ensure that these are honoured. This is a healthy and positive development that I welcome. The more people that are aware of their statutory entitlements the better. My Department publishes a range of explanatory booklets and details employment rights information on our website. I know how important it is, for both employers and employees, to have ready access to this information."

The Employment Rights Information Office is open from 9.30am to 5pm, including lunchtime.

The new Lo-Call Number is 1890 201 615
