Celestica Closure a Shocking Blow to Workers - Tánaiste
The Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Employment, Mary Harney, today (1st May 2003) described the news of job losses at Celestica as a shocking blow for the workforce and for the local community and added that she was very disappointed that current difficulties in the industry had resulted in a complete closure of the operation.
The Tánaiste said: "The telecommunications business around the world has been going through a tough time lately and the closure of Celestica is yet another symptom of those difficulties. Today is traumatic for the workforce and for their families but we must not allow our disappointment to deflect us from the urgent task of replacing as quickly as possible the jobs that have been lost. There are a number of companies who are already recruiting aggressively in the area and I am very confident that within a week or so I will have good news for North Dublin that will help to ease the burden for many of those affected by today's announcement."
