Statement from Tánaiste following Volex Announcement

The Tánaiste described the news of job losses at Volex as a devastating blow for Castlebar and the surrounding area.

The Tánaiste said: "This is traumatic news for the workforce and for their families. Volex has been an important employer in the town for the past sixteen years and the loss of these jobs will be keenly felt by the whole community."

"Today's news again underlines the extent of the challenge facing the Government and the country as a whole. The Government is both committed and determined to pursue policies which will maintain Ireland's competitiveness in the face of strong global competition", the Tánaiste added.
