Minister Fahey Announces Publication of updated Guide to Labour Law

The Minister for Labour Affairs today (Tuesday 30th December 2004) announced the publication of an updated Guide to Labour Law. In announcing the publication the Minister pointed to the obligations that labour law places both on employers and employees alike and of the need to ensure that as far as possible labour law is well explained and understood by all concerned.

The 2003 edition of the Guide provides an up to date summary of the range of legislation administered by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment. In so far as it is possible with any legislation the provisions outlined in the Guide are set out in a straightforward and non-technical manner. The updated Guide and more detailed information, including explanatory booklets/leaflets on individual pieces of legislation, are available from the Employment Rights Information Call Centre of the Department (Telephone (01) 631 3131, Lo-Call 1890 201 615) and are downloadable from the Department's website at: www.djei.ie.

The Minister also announced that a summary version of the Guide will be published early in the new year in the following languages - Russian, Portugese (Brazilian form), Lithuanian, Polish, Hungarian, Latvian, Czech, Chinese and Romanian. These translated versions will replace those provided through the work permit system and will be available from the Employment Rights Call Centre of the Department and downloadable from the Department's website. They will also be made available to the various Embassies, Citizen Information Centres and to all other interested organisations and individuals as required.
