Tánaiste Responds to Unifi Announcement

Mary Harney, Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment said this evening that she is dismayed at the sudden announcement by Unifi Textured Yarns Europe, Letterkenny that it is to close its Donegal facility.

The Tánaiste said: “the impact of this announcement will obviously hit hardest at those workers and their families who are most directly effected but it is also a severe setback for the whole local community.”

“Every effort has been made to safeguard the future of these jobs and today’s announcement comes as a genuine surprise to all of us who have been involved in that effort,” the Tánaiste added.
