“Significant further commitment by Dell to Ireland” – Martin

Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheál Martin T.D., today (Friday 26th November 2004) announced that Dell, the world’s number one manufacturer and direct seller of computers, is to expand. As part of this expansion it also plans to consolidate its current operations in Bray / Cherrywood at a new facility in Cherrywood, Loughlinstown, Co. Dublin. The Cabinet has approved IDA Ireland support for this expansion, which will between now and 2007 create 420 new jobs and bring employment at the operations to 1,650 people.

The investment will result in the creation of an EMEA Business Centre and the state-of-the-art facility at Cherrywood will be the largest customer care and technology support centre in Ireland and can accommodate circa 1,950 staff.

Minister Martin said “This is a significant further commitment by Dell to Ireland and involves a substantial deepening of the role the Irish operation will fulfil in Dell’s highly successful European business. It is a major testament to the quality of Ireland’s workforce As such it further highlights Ireland’s ability to support knowledge-intensive, high skill business.”

This investment will further develop the existing operations from a mid-value centre, serving predominantly the UK and Irish markets, to a high value EMEA (European, Middle East and Africa) Business Centre. The facility already includes an EMEA Enterprise Expert Centre and an EMEA Marketing Studio but moving forward it will also include the addition of a number of functions in areas such as sales, orders, IT field services and development, marketing, communications.

Mr. Tim McCarthy, Dell’s General Manager, Ireland said “We in Dell are delighted to be making this further commitment to our Irish operation, which has already played a major role in our success as a global business. The decision was influenced in large part by the continued high performance of our Irish based employees and the quality of the relationship that we enjoy with the Irish Government and its agencies.”
