Minister Martin welcomes funding allocation to 10 Cork schools

Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Mr Micheál Martin today (Thursday February 24^th 2005) welcomed the announcement that 10 Cork schools are to receive funding for building and modernisation projects.

The Minister said "the total allocation announced today is €46m and I am pleased to note that 10 Co Cork schools are to be allocated funding to undertake building projects. The funding to the Cork schools will facilitate the building of extensions at 7 schools while Aghina National School, Macroom is to receive a new school building and this is certainly good news for all the communities concerned."

The Planning and Building Unit at the Department of Education and Science will contact the schools scheduled to receive funding.

Minister Martin added "As a former teacher myself I understand the critical importance of facilities and accommodation in providing a comfortable learning environment. Today's funding allocation of €46m and the overall €3.4 billion five year investment programme demonstrates a commitment towards ensuring that our school children and teaching professionals have the facilities they require. I am pleased that Cork schools are benefiting accordingly.
