Engenio to establish Global Operations and Supply Chain Management Centre in Cork

Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheál Martin TD today (Monday 11th April 2005) announced that Engenio Information Technologies, Inc., of Milpitas, California, US, one of the world’s leading providers of information storage systems, is establishing a Global Operations and Supply Chain Management Centre in Cork City, with the support of IDA Ireland.

Up to 95 high quality jobs will be created over the next five years and the Centre will be responsible for a wide range of operations, including product manufacturing and test, scheduling and order fulfilment in worldwide markets.

Minister Martin said, “During my visit to the US in October last year I met with representatives of Engenio and I am delighted to announce the establishment of this global operations and supply chain management centre in Cork. It is a significant addition to the data storage sector in Ireland, a sector which is critically important to the future development of the IT industry here. Engenio, a leading company in the storage sub-supply sector, will make a major contribution to the growth of a ‘data storage cluster’ in Cork.”

Engenio develops, builds, markets, and supports high-performance modular storage controllers, disk arrays, and storage management software for today's data-intensive, multi-vendor computing environments. Its products, supplied to strategic partners such as IBM, StorageTek, and Sun Microsystems, offer customers cost effective and quick access to large volumes of stored information.

Thomas Georgens, Engenio’s President and Chief Executive Officer said, “This new centre in Cork will be a strategic site for our company and represents an expansion of Engenio’s workforce in Ireland.” The company first established a presence in Cork in 2000 with the opening of a manufacturing and test site to supply European customers. “Our experiences with the Irish workforce and knowing that we will be able to recruit the calibre of people we require for work of such high skilled nature makes Cork an excellent choice.”

“The Cork location also gives Engenio access to an excellent communications system with Europe, the Americas and Asia and with key customers and other storage–related companies nearby and University College Cork’s technology emphasis, the location is ideal for us,” he added.

Engenio Information Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of LSI Logic Corp. (NYSE: LSI), designs and manufactures high performance modular enterprise storage platforms and storage management software that is delivered to end users through strategic partners. IBM, SGI, StorageTek and Teradata are among the partners who deliver total solutions with unique combinations of hardware, software and services for applications including transaction processing, e-mail, data warehousing and scientific research.

Engenio’s technology is world renowned for its reliability and availability, centralised management and administration, and scalability from very-small to very-large server and storage configurations. Engenio has an installed base of more than 200,000 systems. For more than 20 years, Engenio (previously known as LSI Logic Storage Systems, Inc.) has pioneered much of the technology that defines storage performance — from the first SCSI chip, now housed in the Smithsonian Institution, to the first family of enterprise-class, full-fibre storage arrays. Engenio is headquartered at 670 N. McCarthy Boulevard, Milpitas, CA 95035 or visit www.engenio.com.
