Minister Martin appoints new Member to the Competition Authority
Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Micheál Martin, T.D., today Friday 14th October 2005 announced that he has appointed Dr. Stanley Wong to be a Member of the Competition Authority.
Dr. Wong is currently a Partner and head of the competition law practice in Canadian law firm Davis & Company LLP. He has served as Chair of the National Competition Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association from 2000 to 2001 and Member of the Executive from 1996-2002.
He is qualified as an economist and a lawyer. Prior to entering the practice of law in 1984, he was Associate Professor of Economics at Carleton University, Ottawa. He has two degrees in economics (B.A., Hons., Simon Fraser University and Ph.D., University of Cambridge, King’s College) and a LL.B. degree from the University of Toronto.
Dr. Wong is admitted to practice law as a barrister and solicitor in Ontario and British Columbia, Canada and as a solicitor in England and Wales. He has extensive experience as litigation and advisory counsel on competition matters. He is recognized internationally as a leading competition lawyer.

I see Dr. Wong’s appointment as a further measure to advance the competition agenda in this country. He is exceptionally well qualified for the position and I have no doubt the Competition Authority will benefit from the experience and expertise he will bring to it.”
Dr. Wong will take up his post as Member of the Competition Authority on 1st February 2006.
