Minister Martin opens new ¤2.5 million extension to Data Electronics Facility in Dublin
New 13,000 square feet facility hosts Vodafone network in a multi-million euro contract
The Minister for Enterprise Trade and Employment, Michael Martin T.D., today (27th October 2005), officially opened a new ¤2.5 million extension to Data Electronics’ Data Centre facility in Kilcarbery Park, Dublin. The 13,000 sq feet expansion takes the facility up to 21,000 sq feet.
Speaking at the opening, Minister Martin. said; “The world class services on offer by Data Electronics acts as a strong magnet of attraction for further investment, both from Irish companies seeking to expand into new areas of opportunity and overseas companies seeking to service their European or global headquarter operations from Ireland’’.
The expansion is the first of its kind in Ireland since the downturn in the data centre market in 2000, highlighting an important resurgence and demand by businesses to support and service their IT infrastructure needs to provide more scalable, reliable, and secure environments at substantial cost savings.
“The availability of facilities such as the Data Electronics operation has and will continue to be hugely influential on the decisions by many world leading companies to locate their operations in Ireland’’, the Minister continued.
Vodafone is the first major company to be hosted at the new facility following a multi-million euro competitive contract to house part of its voice and data infrastructure. The multi-year contract will enable Vodafone to build more resilience and capacity on its network to deliver its 3G services, increasing its speed to market with the highest availability of service.
Maurice Mortell, Chief Executive Officer added “We are delighted to announce the opening of this new facility which supports our continued growth strategy. It represents a significant milestone in Ireland’s development as a gateway to Europe for international companies and further highlights the Government’s progress in attracting e-commerce enterprises”.
“We remain committed to expansion as demanded by our growing customer base and are confident the new facility will continue to drive international business into Ireland serving the needs of our new customers like Vodafone to the highest standards.”
Data Electronics has invested ¤13 million in its facility over the past five years and has grown its staff base by 40 per cent. Its Network Operation Centre (NOC) can monitor and support businesses on a 24/7 basis for a fraction of the cost a company would face recreating their own operation.Data Electronics is the only company in the Irish marketplace that integrates countrywide data centre services with field services cross country to offer one-stop IT outsourcing
