Minister Martin congratulates Advanced Medical Optics (AMO) on its continued development in Westport
Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheál Martin TD today (12th January 2006) congratulated Advanced Medical Optics on its ongoing growth and development in Westport during his visit to Co. Mayo.
Advanced Medical Optics (AMO) is a global leader in the development, manufacture and marketing of optical medical devices. The company has two shared services centres in Ireland; Ballsbridge in Dublin and Westport, Co. Mayo. The Westport facility, which was established in 2002 provides financial services to the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region to support AMO manufacturing plants, commercial business, and regional office functions. AMO is continuously recruiting in Westport and currently employs 40people, which is expected to increase to 60by 2006
Minister Martin said “AMO has grown steadily since setting up in Westport in 2002 and continues to recruit high level financial services positions in accounts payable, general accounting, intercompany accounting, management accounting, European statutory reporting, European payroll, compliance procedures, corporate and management reporting. This company is a great asset to industry in Westport and the facility here has become a core part of its business achieving a ‘centre of excellence’ status within the AMO Corporation. I congratulate the management team and workforce of AMO on their success and thank them for their on-going commitment to Westport.”
AMO Westport is expanding the scope of its financial services centre beyond traditional transaction processing to include a centre of excellence and utilise its financial centre’s knowledge base to enhance organisational and business strategies. The centre is currently expanding its scope to provide services to AMO’s business in the Asia Pacifica area. The ability to attract highly skilled people in financial services for its Westport operation has enabled AMO management to successfully attract additional higher level activities to the business in Mayo.
