Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Employment responds to Greencore announcement
March 15th 2006
The Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheál Martin has expressed deep disappointment at today’s announcement by Greencore that they are to close their Mallow plant.
Commenting Minister Martin said, “Obviously my first thoughts are with the workforce and their families. This is devastating news for the workers concerned. I recently visited Mallow & met with the key economic interests in the town and I wish to reassure the people of Mallow that we will be doing everything possible to secure alternative employment for the town”.
"Finding alternative employment for those Greencore staff affected is now a priority. The full resources of the State Agencies will be available to assist the workforce in finding and adapting to existing and future job opportunities. I have asked FAS to immediately carry out an assessment of the skills of the workforce and to assist the workers in securing alternative employment. We also intend to work with Greencore to see if alternative development can take place at the Mallow site”.
