New Member for Competition Authority
The Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Employment, Mr. Micheál Martin has today (Monday 20th March 2006) announced the appointment of Ms. Carolyn Galbreath as a Member of the Competition Authority.
Ms. Galbreath has experience in U.S. and European competition law. As a trial attorney at the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice (San Francisco Office), she prosecuted international criminal cartel cases and litigated corporate mergers. In 1999, Ms. Galbreath was awarded a U.K. Atlantic Fellowship in Public Policy to study European Union mergers and competition law modernization. Ms Galbreath is a graduate of Cleveland Marshall College of Law.
Announcing the appointment, Minister Martin said:
“I am delighted that we have been able to attract a competition lawyer of Ms. Galbreath’s standing and experience.
I see Ms Galbreath’s appointment as a further step in advancing the competition agenda in this country. She is very well qualified for the position and I have no doubt the Authority will benefit from the considerable experience and expertise she will bring to it.”
Ms Galbreath will take up the position on the 18th April 2006.
