Minister Killeen Welcomes 285 New Jobs for Shannon Free Zone

Mr. Tony Killeen, T.D., Minister for Labour Affairs, warmly welcomed today’s (Wednesday 28th June 2006) announcement that two major employers will expand their operations at Shannon Free Zone leading to the creation of 285 new jobs.

Minister Killeen said “These expansion announcements by Halifax Insurance Ireland Ltd, who will create an additional 185 new jobs and SYKES Shannon who will more than double its employment with an additional 100 new jobs, are a tremendous boost for the Shannon region and for the economy of County Clare”.

“The decision to expand their operations here in Shannon is excellent news. It consolidates their existing operations and will further enhance the Irish operation’s role within their companies global business. This announcement clearly underlines our continued efforts to encourage the expansion of existing multinational companies in Ireland”, the Minister added

“Additional jobs created in existing enterprises tend to be sustainable and illustrate commitment to the region by the parent companies,” Minister Killeen concluded
