Minister Michéal Martin announces ¤11 million for FAS Training Centres
Micheál Martin TD, Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Employment today (Tuesday August 29th 2006) announced that he was providing ¤11 million to FAS for the upgrading of a number of Training Centres and for the replacement of equipment.
Commenting Minister Martin said “ Across the country, thousand of people benefit from courses and programmes provided at FAS Training Centres. The Government is committed to the continued upskilling and training of workers and the ¤11 million funding I am announcing today will provide valuable additional space in some centres, upgrade facilities at others and allow for the purchase of new equipment.
I am providing the following funding to;
Carlow - ¤600,000 for the refurbishment of the existing Community Training Centre will lead to an increase in the number of trainee places from 50 to 72
Nenagh - ¤600,000 for the refurbishment of the existing Community Training Centre, which will almost double the size of the centre to 765 square metres
Drogheda - ¤600,000 for the refurbishment of a new Employment Services and Community Services Office
Shannon - ¤450,000, which will provide for refurbishment works at the Training Centre
Limerick - ¤750,000 for the provision of a new heating system and other refurbishment works at the Training Centre
Waterford - ¤750,000 for the upgrade of the Training Centre
Dublin - ¤2.65 million for the upgrade of Training Centres
A further ¤1.6 million will be provided to Training Centres around the country for equipment for new Apprenticeship courses including carpentry and joinery, electrical, plumbing and motor.
“I am also providing a further ¤3 million, which will be divided among FAS Centres across the country for the further development of apprentices courses and the replacement of computers and other ageing equipment” Minister Martin concluded.
