Shannon Aerospace

Mr. Tony Killeen, Minister for Labour Affairs at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment said today (Tuesday 5^th September 2006) that he is aware of the concerns of workers and others at Shannon Aerospace arising from the protective notice issued last week.

The Minister of State has ensured that the industrial relations institutions are monitoring the situation closely.

Previous experience in these matters indicate that political intervention would be counterproductive and could be extremely damaging to the prospects of resolving the situation.

The Minister pointed to the excellent record of the State’s industrial relations machinery in addressing complex and difficult matters of this nature.
