Government Policies continue to have positive impact on our labour market – Minister Martin
Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheál Martin T.D. today (Tuesday 7th November 2006) welcomed the latest CSO Live Register figures.
Minister Martin said: “'These figures reflect positively on the Irish economy which continues to perform remarkably well with conditions remaining favourable for a healthy labour market performance over the remainder of this year and the period ahead. Our policies of sound economic management and ensuring we remain a competitive location for business, will continue to generate value-added jobs and spin-off opportunities in Ireland.
“With the total numbers of people in employment in the state at over 2 million for the first time in our history and with one of the lowest unemployment rates in the EU, it is extremely encouraging to see that our policies are having such a positive impact.
“It is important, however, that a firm focus must continue to be fixed on maintaining and promoting competitiveness in order for positive trends in labour market performance to continue,” concluded Minister Martin.
