Minister Michael Ahern Presents OHSAS Certification to Meteor Mobile Communications

Minister for Trade and Commerce, Mr. Michael Ahern T.D. today (Tuesday 12th December 2006) presented Meteor Mobile Communications with OHSAS 18001 certification, the first telecommunications company in Ireland to be awarded full certification to this Standard.

OHSAS is an Occupation Health and Safety Assessment Series for health and safety management systems which is intended to help organisations to control occupational health and safety risks.

Speaking at the presentation Minister Ahern said “As the first telecommunications company in Ireland to be awarded this certification you have set the benchmark for other organisations to emulate.”

“This certificate provides customers and staff with clear evidence that you proactively protect the health and safety of your workforce. It is praiseworthy that Meteor fully identified the hazards involved, assessed the risks and put in place a safe working environment, as was evident at the external certification and inspection by the National Standards Authority of Ireland”, the Minister added.

“We can see from the continued growth of Meteor that its dedicated commitment to customers and staff is bringing results. Meteor has opened 36 stores since it was established in 2001 and now has 750,000 subscribers. Meteor’s commitment to fair dealing and ethical behaviour and encouragement of teamwork and transparency are key to its success”, the Minister said.

Concluding Minister Ahern congratulate all members of staff of Meteor for working so hard to implement the health and safety management system.
