100 New Jobs as Cork firm scoops Sky Deal
Statement by Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Micheál Martin, TD
Immediate recruitment is to start to fill 100 jobs at the Cork firm Abtran after it secured a major deal with Sky television, according to the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Micheál Martin TD.
“This is a major boost for Bishopstown based Abtran, which has become a leader in the field of outsourcing and the provision of support services for client companies. Securing a high profile client such as Sky is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of the local management team and the existing 350 employees.”
“The deal with Sky will see Abtran providing sales support to the television network. It will see sales advisors in Cork handling literally thousands of calls each day.”
“The growth of this Cork company has been extraordinary by any standards. It enjoys support from Enterprise Ireland and has been an important participant on many Government trade missions.”
“The announcement today shows Cork can compete with any other location in Europe in attracting quality jobs. Other recent announcements include 365 jobs at VMware in Ballincollig, 150 jobs at GlaxoSmithKline in Currabinny, 130 jobs at IBM in the Airport Business Park and 250 jobs by 13 start up firms in Cork which are receiving support from Enterprise Ireland.”
“These announcements do not include support and supply jobs that will also be provided,” concluded the Minister.
