Mr. Michael Ahern, T.D., Minister for Innovation Policy today (9th October 2007) welcomed the appointment by the Government of Mr. Eamonn Laird as Controller of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks for a term of 5 years, with effect from 15 October, 2007.

Congratulating Mr. Laird on his appointment, Minister Ahern said “ the Patents Office has a vital role to play in supporting innovation as the creation and protection of intellectual property rights are becoming increasingly important to the success of Irish business. I know that, in a previous capacity, Mr. Laird played a key role in the modernisation of the Office’s business systems. I am confident that this experience and the skills which he brings to the role of Controller will contribute to the further development of the Patents Office as a dynamic public body. I wish him every success in his new responsibilities”.
