Tánaiste Welcomes Aldi Expansion
Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Ms Mary Coughlan, T.D today (Wednesday 12th November 2008) welcomed the announcement by Aldi that they are to expand their operations in Ireland in a ¤350 million investment leading to the creation of 650 new jobs over the next three years.
The Tánaiste said: “Irish consumers will very much welcome the announcement that Aldi is to invest ¤350 million resulting in 650 new jobs at 35 new stores in various locations around the country. The 650 jobs created by this investment will be of significant benefit to a number of local economies who will also receive a further boost by the jobs that will be created in the construction phase of these new outlets.
“The entry of discounters such as Aldi in recent years have brought significant changes to the retail grocery sector by contributing to greater competition resulting in significant benefits to the Irish consumer”, the Tánaiste concluded.
