Tanaiste Welcomes second Merrion Pharmaceuticals Contract with Novo Nordisk

Tanaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Mary Coughlan, T.D., today (Friday 16th January 2009) welcomed the announcement of the major US$58 million contract between Merrion Pharmaceuticals and Novo Nordisk.

Congratulating Merrion Pharmaceuticals, the Tanaiste said “This second multi million dollar contract between Merrion Pharmaceuticals and Novo Nordisk marks a major milestone in the achievements of this young and innovative Irish company. The Government, through Enterprise Ireland, has been delighted to support its ongoing development. Ireland is a global centre of excellence in the life sciences sector, with over 170 indigenous companies operating across a wide array of business areas from medical devices, medical sub-supply, diagnostics, biotech, chemicals and manufacturing. Merrion Pharmaceuticals are an example of what can be achieved by a company with innovation and R&D at the heart of its business strategy and I wish them continued success”.
