Perfect Synergy at IT Tallaght- Minister Devins

Dr Jimmy Devins TD Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation today visited the Synergy Centre in the Institute of Technology Tallaght. IT Tallaght’s state of the art innovation space, The Synergy Centre provides office space and business support to early stage enterprises. This purpose built high-tech three storey complex is located on-site at the Institute and supports high technology and knowledge intensive enterprises which have real potential to foster innovation, create jobs and generate exports.

The centre is one of 22 such centres funded under Enterprise Ireland’s campus incubation programme. Enterprise Ireland provided funding of ¤2.5 million for Synergy in Tallaght It is now home to 31 companies employing 60 staff. The Minister met some of the companies including Karen Bolger MD of HowtoProjectManage, James Spellman Manager of ITT Dublin’s Vision Project and Dave McNamara MD of Renewable Power Generation ltd.

Renewable Power Generation ltd is a wholly independent Irish owned renewable energy company. The company operates wind powered electricity generation plants on suitable industrial sites and sells this electricity directly to the industrial site owner.

All of these companies in Tallaght have availed of the Government’s Innovation voucher initiative worth ¤5,000. The voucher can be exchanged for advice and expertise from participating knowledge providers (universities, institutes of technology or publicly funded research bodies).

Speaking after his visit Minister Devins said, ‘‘the recovery of the Irish economy is dependent on companies such as those at Synergy in Tallaght.This Government is providing the funding for start up companies to develop and grow and create employment.
