Kelleher hails Blizzard success

Minister for Trade and Commerce, Billy Kelleher T. D. today (Thursday 28th May 2009) joined Táoiseach Brian Cowen in congratulating Blizzard Entertainment, Inc., on their phenomenal growth and success to date.

Minister Kelleher said; “Cork can be very proud of the part it has played in this success story. The rapid growth of their business since the opening of their European Customer Support Centre here in Cork has seen their workforce grow from an earlier expectation of creating 100 new jobs by 2010, to now employing over 600 people”.

“Cork continues to prove that it is a key location for those in the entertainment software sector. It is only a month ago that Big Fish Games announced that it will open its European Headquarters at City Gate Business Park in Mahon and create up to 100 new jobs. One of the key elements in attracting such business is our proven track record in meeting the needs of highly inventive and technologically advanced projects through the availability of a highly talented and educated workforce and local infrastructure.

“Blizzard Entertainment is providing many of our young people with the welcome opportunity to work in a major multinational corporation offering excellent employment in a modern and progressive environment.  Their presence here is testament to the fact that Cork is a major player in attracting this new type of investment.

“I want to wish all those involved with the company continued growth and success as the Cork Centre becomes a key site for the company in Europe” Minister Kelleher concluded.
