Tánaiste publishes Interim Report of the Mid West Task Force

The Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Ms. Mary Coughlan, T.D., today (Tuesday, 28 July 2009) published the Interim Report of the Mid West Task Force she established last February following the announcement by DELL that it was substantially reducing its Limerick workforce.

The Task Force was charged with analysing the impact of the resulting significant job losses for the region; with making recommendations to address the resulting economic challenge; and with recommending to Government a development plan for the Mid West Region.

Having brought the Interim Report to Cabinet, the Tánaiste said that its findings were broad ranging and would have to be addressed by Departments across Government. She said that she would immediately begin the task of consultation with her colleagues to evaluate and consider implementation of the report’s recommendations.

The Tánaiste thanked the members of the Mid West Task Force, its Chairman, Mr. Denis Brosnan, and its executive in Shannon Development, led by Dr. Vincent Cunnane, for their work to date and said she looked forward to receiving their final report and development plan proposal next year.

The Interim Report is available on the website of the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment at the following link:
