New premium and innovative tyre brand available in Ireland

Irish owned, Gratude Tyres, sole distributor of the new and innovative Sailun tyre in Ireland, met with the Minister for Science, Technology & Innovation to showcase and promote this new premium brand to the Irish market.

Sailun have become the world’s first tyre manufacturer to commit to embedding Advanced ID’s RFID tyre tags in a commercial truck line.

Conor Lenihan, TD, Minister for Science, Technology & Innovation commented, “This technology will provide the transport and tyre industries with important information in relation to the tracking and maintenance of tyres. It will also provide valuable insight into how organisations can protect themselves, their business and their property from the growing threat of crime.”

This technological breakthrough will enable all end users to easily track the life span of a tyre and offers tyre owners and fleet managers a state of the art RFID solution to track and identify tyres.

This is of vital importance as the theft of bus, truck and off the road/earth mover tyres is becoming increasingly common in many countries around the world. More importantly it can assist in the elimination of illegal dumping of unwanted casings.

Dave Naughton, President of the Irish Tyre Industry Association commented “In welcoming Gratude Tyres as a new member of the association, we congratulate them in bringing this new innovative Sailun tyre onto the Irish market and believe this RFID technology would greatly help in many areas within our industry.”

This type of tracking also enables the documentation of the entire life of the tyre, from point of origin, through rethreading and service repairs, right up to disposal. It will also assist in the prevention of the illegal dumping of tyres due to traceability.

Rebecca Healy of Gratude commented, “In these challenging times we are confident that the introduction of the Sailun premium brand to Ireland, will provide much needed savings whilst ensuring safety and quality are a priority, to the Irish Tyre Industry”.

Notes for Editors:

RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification – similar to that used in pet tracking.

The RFID tag can be embedded in the tyre during the tyre curing process and the tyre patch, which is cold vulcanised on the tyre after manufacture, or for replacement tyres already in the field.  Both applications provide a life of tyre, unique ID which can be used for inventory purposes, tyre maintenance with Pneu-Logic hand held RFID reader tools, theft prevention and as a resource in tyre recall situations
