Minister for Labour Affairs announces new Deputy Chairman of the Labour Court
Mr. Dara Calleary TD, Minister for Labour Affairs, today (Friday 15 January, 2010), announced that he is appointing Mr Brendan Hayes as a Deputy Chairman of the Labour Court. Mr Hayes is currently Vice President of SIPTU.
Minister Calleary wished Mr Hayes well in his new appointment. The Minister said "Brendan Hayes will bring a wealth of experience to the Labour Court given his extensive industrial relations experience and his previous service for over thirty years as a trade union official".

Brendan Hayes is currently Vice President of SIPTU and a member of the National Executive Committee of the ICTU. He has served on several Government Commissions including
The Commission on Public Service Pensions, 1996-2000
The Commission on Taxation, 2008-2009
He has over thirty years' experience as a Union official, having served as a Regional Secretary in SIPTU from 1990 to 2004, and formerly as a Branch Secretary in the Federated Workers' Union of Ireland before the merger with the former ITGWU which created SIPTU.
The Labour Court has nine members in total, including the Chairman, and is organised in three Divisions.
