Nuance Opens International Headquarters in Dublin, Ireland
26 June 2012
Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD, has today [Tuesday] announced that Nuance Communications, Inc., a leading provider of voice and language solutions for global business and consumers, is opening its international headquarters in Dublin, Ireland.
Today’s announcement and the new facility is the result of a close partnership with the Irish Government through IDA Ireland, who provided support in attracting Nuance to Dublin. The opening expands Nuance’s long history and significant presence in the region, and will create more than 40 positions in sales, finance, management and human resources. The transition to Nuance’s international headquarters in Dublin began in October 2011.
“Dublin provides Nuance with an excellent foundation for building on our deep experience and resources in the Europe and supporting customers and partners across the region,” said Neil Weston, senior vice president and general manager, Nuance EMEA. “We are pleased to be able to leverage an extensive, talented workforce in the region and to join the many premier, multinational technology companies that call Ireland a home. Combined, with the assistance provided by IDA Ireland, Dublin was a clear, natural choice for Nuance.”
Nuance provides advanced voice technology solutions for a wide range of companies and customers across mobile, healthcare and call centre industries. The company counts leading companies and organizations, including Audi, Barclays, BMW, BT, Deutsche Bank, National Healthcare Systems (NHS), Office of Irish Revenue, and Vodafone, among its many customers in Europe. In addition, Nuance maintains an imaging business with strong regional ties to large manufacturers such as Canon, HP and Xerox. With the global headquarters in Massachusetts, United States, Nuance currently employs more than 10,000 people with offices in 35 countries.
Making today’s announcement, Minister Bruton said, “A major part of the Government’s plan for jobs and growth is targeting growth sectors where Ireland has particular strengths and seeking to build clusters of companies in those areas. In recent years ICT has been a major success story, and the challenge now is to leverage the major international companies which have operations here to attract further investment. The announcement today that Nuance is locating its international headquarters in Ireland is great news. The 40 jobs it has announced today are very welcome, and I am determined that through the Action Plan for Jobs we will take greater advantage of this sector and see further jobs growth in the coming years.”
Minister Bruton held a meeting with senior executives in Nuance while on a trade and investment mission to the USA in April 2012.
“The decision by Nuance to locate its Sales and Financial Shared Services centre in Dublin is a clear endorsement of Ireland’s strengths in the ICT area,” said Barry O’Leary, CEO of IDA Ireland. “Ireland continues to provide an attractive business environment to assist global businesses like Nuance grow a strong presence in Europe.”
