EU Regulation on Ensuring the Cross-Border Portability of Online Content Services in the Internal Market

On 9 December, the EU Commission launched a Communication specifically on copyright entitled 'Towards a modern, more European copyright framework', as well as a legislative proposal for a Regulation on portability of online content services.

These documents, as well as the press release accompanying their release, are available for download at the links below.

The Communication sets out the vision of the EU Commission to create a modern EU copyright framework fit for the digital age. The draft Regulation is the first of a number of legislative proposals expected from the Commission in 2016.

The incoming Dutch Presidency of the EU has indicated its intention to convene a meeting in mid-January to begin consideration of the Commission proposals. Any initial views on the proposals can be outlined to the Department either by email to copyright@djei.ie or by post to:
