The Directive is aimed at putting a place an appropriate legal framework for the collective management of rights that are administered by collecting societies on behalf of rightholders. The Directive provides rules for ensuring better governance and greater transparency of all collecting societies and facilitates multi-territorial licensing by collecting societies of the rights of authors in their musical works. The deadline for the transposition of the Directive into domestic law by Member States is 10th April 2016.

The Directive can be downloaded here.

The closing date for submissions is Thursday, 19 February 2015. Respondents are requested to make their submissions in writing, preferably by email to copyright@djei.ie.
