What We Do

World Intellectual Property Day – 26 April 2024

IP and the SDGs: Building our common future with innovation and creativity

We celebrate World Intellectual Property Day on 26 April to highlight the role that IP rights, such as patentstrademarksindustrial designs and copyright, play in encouraging innovation and creativity. A balanced IP system recognises and rewards inventors and creators for their work and ensures that society benefits from their creativity and ingenuity.

The theme for this year’s World IP Day is IP and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Building our common future with innovation and creativity.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 SDGs is a roadmap to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people live in peace and prosperity. IP policies and an effective legal framework encourages inventors and creators to invest their time, energy and ingenuity into developing new technologies to address the global challenges we face and have a key role to play in achieving the SDGs to build a better and more sustainable future for everyone.

World IP Day changemakers

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) celebrates changemakers from around the world who are driving the innovation and creativity needed to achieve the SDGs and build a better and more sustainable future for everyone.
