Minister Dara Calleary attending Competitiveness Council

Minister of State for Trade Promotion, Digital and Company Regulation Dara Calleary TD will join his fellow ministers with responsibility for the Internal Market and Industry at today’s meeting of the EU Competitiveness Council in Brussels. The Commission will be represented by the Internal Market Commissioner Breton. The Spanish Presidency will be represented by Mr Jordi Herue, Minister for Industry and Tourism.

Ministers will look to agree one General Approach on the Regulation on establishing a framework of measures for strengthening Europe’s net-zero technology products manufacturing ecosystem (Net Zero Industry Act).

Ahead of the meeting, Minister Calleary said:

“I am looking forward to a constructive discussion amongst Ministers on the establishment of a framework of measures that will strengthen Europe’s net zero technology products manufacturing ecosystem. Ireland is supportive of the current text, which we consider represents a balanced, fair and pragmatic approach for achieving the objectives of the Net Zero Industry Act.”

Ministers will also engage in a policy debate on the Regulation on prohibiting products made with forced labour on the Union Market. Ahead of the debate, Minister Calleary said:

“I welcome the opportunity to discuss this important proposal today.  There can be no place for goods made with forced labour in the EU Single Market.  Ireland strongly advocates respect for human rights throughout the globe and we, therefore, very much support the objectives of the proposal to tackle the issues of products made with forced labour on the market.”
